Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and the rest of Jurgen Klopp’s side will not be a source of fear for Chelsea on Sunday, according to Blues forward Olivier Giroud.
The France international is pushing to be involved in the crucial Premier League showdown, with Chelsea battling for a top-four finish, while Liverpool are still going for the title this season.
Sunday’s hosts are the 7/10 favourite to pick up the three points as they look to stay ahead of their title rivals Manchester City.
One man who has been key to the Reds’ success so far this term is centre-back Van Dijk, who has earned plenty of plaudits for fixing the Merseysiders# problems at the back.
Giroud knows Van Dijk’s quality but says there will be no fear factor from facing the Dutch international – or the rest of the Liverpool side this weekend.
“I’ve played against him personally a few times and it has always been a tough position because he is very good and very strong, but I’ve scored a few goals playing against his teams,” said Giroud.
“I lost against him when we played the Netherlands recently, but I won last year and scored at Stamford Bridge, and scored the winner at the Stade de France against the Netherlands a few months ago.
“We don’t have to be scared and no matter who plays, we will be 100 per cent focused on winning the game.”
Chelsea have an impressive record at Anfield, having gone unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions at the home of the Reds.
The Blue are 9/2 to come away from Merseyside with a win, while Maurizio Sarri’s men are 6/5 in the double chance market.
